What is the 15th Street Railcar Experience?

The 15th Street Railcar Experience is a subset of City Council's proposed 15th Street Experience.

While the overall project is focused on improvements to the lighting, walkability and parking in the area, the Railcar portion is different.

Specifically, the project calls for two railcars to be placed on the portion of 15th Street currently occupied by Gunslinger Square, where the Cheyenne Gunslingers perform.

If this is done, the Gunslingers will be forced to remove some (or all) of the buildings currently used for their shows. This means, the shows will either be severely diminished, or required to relocate. In either case, this will impact the effectiveness of the Gunslingers to draw a crowd to the Downtown area and direct patrons to local businesses in the area.

The Facts

  • Cheyenne has a deep railroad history involving the Union Pacific Railroad
  • The railcars involved are NOT Union Pacific Railroad cars and WILL NOT bear any resemblance to Union Pacific Railroad cars in color as they will be painted green.
  • The total cost to relocate and paint the exterior of the cars will be approximately $987,000.
  • The windows will be painted black, which will prohibit visitors from viewing the inside of the cars.
  • There is currently no evidence of this project being presented to voters for approval.
  • There is currently no evidence of a business plan, maintenance budget, or return on investment for this project.
